Although Albert the Virtual Agent takes on a male persona, there have been and still are countless women figures in the technology/science field. I found this great photo depicting, "without women,
computing would not exist." and it inspired me to write a blog about these women that changed the face of technology through time. Image is credited to WomenRockScience and can be found by clicking here.
Ada Lovelace is the founder of scientific computing, After her death in 1852, her notes on Babbage's Analytical Engine were discovered and republished. In these notes, she describes an algorithm for the analytical engine to compute Bernoulli numbers. This algorithm is considered the first tailoring for implementation on a computer.
Another woman that contributed to IT is Hedy Lamarr, the inventor of WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS. Not only was she a talented movie star, she also used her brains to create what the majority of the world still uses to this day.
The Top Secret Rosies were the female computers of World War II. After pearl Harbor, the Army went on a search to find women mathematicians. They became known as the first computer programmers and now have a movie based on their story, properly titled, "Top Secret Rosies."
Grace Hopper is another woman that made great strides for women in the field of science and technology. She developed the first compiler for a computer programming language.
These are just a few of the females that made an impact in the IT world. Cheers!
